Made in Queensland Grant announced for manufacturer SMEs

The State Government's MIQ provides grant funding to support Qld’s SMEs in the traditional manufacturing sector. This long-awaited grant aims to increase international competitiveness, productivity and innovation via the adoption of new technologies and processes.

FUNDING

  • Funding amount between $50,000 and $2.5m will be reimbursed on completion of the project.
  • Co-contribution of 50% of project cost is required.

TIMELINE

The application is a two-stage process. Stage 1 will assess Eligibility. Stage 2 will assess Value for Money.

  • Stage 1 Applications – Open 31 October 2022. Closing date expected early/mid December.
  • Stage 1 Assessments - Expected 16 weeks (4mths) from submission due date.
  • Stage 2 Applications – By invitation only. Timing TBA.
  • Projects Commence – not before funding agreements are executed.
  • Maximum project length – 12 months (longer projects considered but must be justified)

OBJECTIVES

The objectives of MIQ are to support the Advanced Queensland Priorities and the Department of Regional Development, Manufacturing and Water’s Strategic Direction by:

  • increasing the productivity and international competitiveness of Qld-based manufacturing SMEs.
  • encouraging Qld-based manufacturing SMEs to adopt innovative processes and technologies.
  • encouraging more Qld-based manufacturing SMEs to become Advanced Manufacturers.
  • supporting traditional manufacturing jobs and creating the new high-skilled manufacturing jobs of the future.

MIQ will also support manufacturers to achieve energy efficiency, export, reshoring, and decarbonisation outcomes.

 

ORGANISATION ELIGIBILITY

This grant opportunity is only available for:

  • Qld-based businesses whose principal activity and majority annual turnover is derived from manufacturing.
  • Have an ABN and are registered for GST.
  • SMEs with between 5 – 200 FTE employees, with at least 5 of these located in Qld.

Total funding received by one entity across all MIQ rounds must not exceed $2.5m. Further eligibility requirements apply.

PROJECT ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible, your project must be consistent with MIQ Objectives, undertaken at a Qld project site, and:

  • introduce industry-leading equipment, a process or technology not currently used by the applicant.
  • be aimed at achieving the desired business transformation, embracing Industry 4.0.
  • not be subject to funding under any previous MIQ rounds or other Local, State or Fed Govt grant/scheme.
